Butt and Amir lose appeals against jail terms

Disgraced Pakistani players Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir lost their appeals against their prisons sentences on Wednesday for their involvement in spot-fixing that jolted the world of cricket.

The pair were not present at the Court of Appeal in London for the hearing before Lord Chief Justice Igor Judge, the head of the English judiciary, and two other judges.

The Southwark Crown Court of London, earlier this month had handed down 30 month prison sentence to ex-skipper Butt, six months to Amir and one year jail sentence to their teammate and fellow-conspirer Mohammad Asif for the conspiracy to cheat and accept corrupt payments during the last year England tour when trio conspired with spots agent Mazhar Majeed to bowl deliberated no-balls as a part of money-spinning gambling scam. Majeed was sent behind the bars for 34 months.
