Cape Town Test: Australia in trouble despite Clark’s ton

Despite of skipper Michael Clark’s blazing unconquered ton Australia concluded the opening rain-hit day of first Test against South Africa at Cape Town in deep trouble.

Forced to bat Aussies were in precarious position at 8-214 with Peter Siddle the night-watchman at the crease when stumps were called off due to bad light and spell of drizzling. Five of Aussies batsmen failed to reach double figures.

Clark (107 not out) developed 103-run stand alongside Shaun Marsh (44) for fourth wicket after tourists lost three wickets for 40 runs.

Clarke recorded his second consecutive Test century as skipper and 16th overall. He also amassed the 5000-run landmark in a knock which is studded with 17 fours.
